Transition Area
Fair Energetics
- Alternative energy supply
- Energy access for local communities, health self-management
- Changing patterns of use and consumption
- Integration of different energy uses

Thanks to the water resources of the area, they have thought about the possibility of having another form of clean energy as an alternative to electricity, which allows them to be autonomous and to be able to set up other business models that benefit the community, both in fish farming and agricultural production.
Despite the community’s disbelief, they have been creating a system that helps people see other forms of energy generation.
Technical characteristics of the proposal
- 4 lakes with capacity for approximately 800 tilapia per lake, each lake with a size of approximately 9 mts X 5mts of 80 cm deep.
- The shape is scaled to take advantage of the water fall.
- A ram mounted on a tank of approximately 21 cubic meters, 2′ galvanized pipe, which helps clean the water and reuse it for the lakes, and then reaches the pelton.
- Pelton that every 15 min revolves 21 mts of water, generates 1h of energy.
- 2 KV pulley generator, which generates energy to power a house and a single lake oxygenation system.
- They intend to expand this capacity to generate enough energy to power the oxygenation system of the lakes, the two houses of the beneficiary families, and to triple the production capacity of red tilapia. At the moment the system is not finished due to the lack of a motor pump installation to be able to work 24 hours a day.
- Water collection tanks.
Productive, community, environmental, or economic processes or activities that were positively impacted by the implementation of the community experience of TEJ.
Currently, they have a production process that allows them to harvest approximately 800 tilapia every month and a half, which is equivalent to 230 K, and they also use organic fertilizer for the family’s food production.
Beneficiaries of the experience
7 families
Achievements and problems encountered during implementation
ACHIEVEMENTS:
- Water savings since the system allows them to recycle water.
- Generation of employment, at the moment 3 elderly heads of household are leading the process and generating income for their families, they expect to generate at least 9 jobs in the community.
- Economic savings, they will go from drawing 230 K every month and a half to drawing 600 K.
- Participation of women heads of household, one of the leaders of the process is an elderly woman. During the working days we have two women who are present.
PROBLEMS:
- Cost of infrastructure and equipment.
Women’s participation in the TEJ community experience
The process is led by a woman and at the time of harvesting, they are in charge of the final preparation.
