Transition Area
Fair Energetics
- Energy efficiency
- Changing patterns of use and consumption
- Self-management of health
The proposal integrates two paths, on the one hand there is the technical one that seeks the installation of a distiller to extract essential oils and hydrolates from the medicinal and aromatic plants of the Soitamá river basin.
On the other hand, the proposal is complemented by the knowledge about the native plants of the basin, which is safeguarded by the García and García farming families, who in addition to inhabiting the basin for more than seven generations, are caretakers of the territory, guardians of native seeds and sowers-dispersers of agroecology.
The care of the memory of origin is a spiritual path, which contributes to the recovery of ancestral memories, so that a large number of people.
The medicine that is prepared with the distiller is more than oil for physical well-being, because when it is cooked with fire of origin, it is woven with the purpose of achieving balance, the care of life, the community autonomy of health and the connection with the Self.
The community energy for health is the fire of origin, which is sustained with firewood brought by the river to its banks; this source of energy allows reducing the use of gas.

Achievements and problems encountered during implementation
ACHIEVEMENTS:
- It avoids deforestation of the forest that has been cared for and guarded by the community.
- Agroecological production of aromatic and medicinal plants is strengthened.
- Given that the «Los Genaros» family has been a reference in agroecology, the Soitamá territory is a school, so there is a high potential (and long-term purpose) to promote community education processes with replications of the distillers in other families in the watershed and the region.
Women’s participation in the TEJ community experience
This proposal is conceived, developed and sustained by women, so their involvement is fundamental, since they have a strong connection and responsibility with family health and are the ones who lead the role of care in families.
They are containers and breeders of the popular knowledge of the plants, and they are the ones who cook the medicines.
