Photovoltaic systems for the El Edén Senior Citizens’ Home Foundation

List item 1

The El Edén Home for the Elderly Foundation launched the solar energy project in 2018, which aimed to improve the quality of life of the elderly, through access to clean and continuous energy to carry out various leisure activities and, incidentally, to take care of their health in a simpler and more practical way.

Technical characteristics of the proposal

System capacity: 14.25kWp, 50 solar panels of 285W, 24 OPZV 900Ah batteries, 3 victron inverter chargers of 5kWp, one inverter 15kWp, Victron.

Productive, community, environmental, or economic processes or activities that were positively impacted by the implementation of the community experience of TEJ.

It is not related to a productive process, but it does aim to generate positive impacts on the quality of life of the elderly, who are in vulnerable conditions.

Beneficiaries of the experience

16 families composed of 50 men and 30 women.

  1. Improving the quality of life of the elderly by providing them with continuity of electric power service.
  2. Savings in energy costs.
  3. Supporting women’s participation in engineering; the project was designed and implemented by Enef, a women-led engineering company that is committed to gender equality and women’s participation in photovoltaics.
  1. Power outages due to technical failures.
  2. Equipment damage due to sudden voltage changes.
  3. Energy service costs.

Women’s participation in the TEJ community experience

The participation of women has been in two areas; first, from the engineering and technical side, and second, from the administrative and managerial side.

Since the administration of the foundation, the director has promoted the solar energy project, understanding that the change to clean energy is not only social and economic welfare but also a relief for the planet, avoiding CO2 emissions released into the atmosphere; and the engineering part (design, installation and maintenance) is in charge of a company that is committed to the participation of women in engineering and to the fifth sustainable development goal, which is gender equality.
